Remember that little acronym. It stands for Search Engine Optimization. That’s your ticket to the big leagues, and it all starts and ends with one concept—traffic. Driving traffic makes the information superhighway tick. Just like the crowded freeways you were happy to abandon to work at home, you now have a new road to navigate.
Start a blog. Web logs, or blogs as they are more often referred to as, are the most popular way to gain interest in your business, product, or service. It doesn’t have to be super fancy, although it should be informative. Talk about your business, and talk often. Build good content people will want to return to read on a regular basis, therefore keeping you in their mind.
Get people to your blog. Creating great content will often encourage others who stop by to write about you on their blog. That’s a big bonus. The more links you have coming in from other websites, the more the search engines take you seriously so when someone searches for your particular item, or service, your name will come up in the search box higher. This is one area you definitely want to be number one in.
Always play nice in the sandbox. When someone gives you an inbound link from their blog, thank them in their comment trail. If you find their site intriguing as well, give them a return link. Build good relationships online, they are invaluable.
Cruise around online and visit other blogs that are in the same general field as yours. Don’t just go there, however, interact. Post comments on their posts. What happens when you post comments? You leave behind a little breadcrumb trail. Your URL for others who read the comment to follow. Hey, lookie there, another inbound link.
You’ll be surprised how many people follow those links too. Curiosity didn’t just kill the cat, it nabs viewers too.
Don’t be shy. Talk about yourself, your business, your website to everyone and anyone who will listen. Those people talk too, and when they do, they may just mention your name and then they’ll two friends, and so on and so on. You get the picture.
Now get out there and put your new marketing plan into action and drive that traffic home.
